Be smart, play brilliant, and master craps the proper way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Modern craps evolved from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard through a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French relocated down south and discovered sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and across the country. A few think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn built the current craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
